January Sewing Challenge Presents ...

... the finished Anna Maria Horner Socialite Dress.

I brought this as a kit many months back and it arrived all the way from Texas, USA! While my good intentions were to have it made by Christmas, it somehow was put on the back burner while I finished sewing for everybody else!

So many thanks to Carolyn for her 12 month challenge and forcing me to make something for myself, hence out came the kit and away we went!

I am so in love with my new dress and you can be assured that it will have lots of wear! I made a belt for it, which gives more shape to the waistline, or likewise can be tied under the bustline too (which is how a few of my dresses are styled.)

Gorgeous fabric, gorgeous dress :)

The Socialite - no belt ...

Belted at the waist (above) and bust (below)

Stay tuned for Jaida's matching number, pictures coming soon ....

Progressing Along - Socialite Dress

Making progress ...

Honestly I should be working on it rather than blogging of where I am up to, but it seems we are all stuck indoors in the midst of a typical hot country day with views of a storm brewing outside ... Master 6 has the dreaded ear infection lurgy (after an intensive week of swimming instruction) ... so I don't like my chances of sneaking into my room and sewing along ... A girl can wish anyway!

This is where I am up to the AMH Socialite, what's left?
* attaching the front/back interior yoke
* finishing off the bias on the arm holes
* hemming ..

So stay tuned ....

My Favourite Kind of Mail ...

Remember last Friday in Today I ... ordered one-yard wonders and handmade home, I was surprised to receive my mail slip for this order yesterday. Very impressed with the turn over time, considering postage was free and expressed :)

So here I am after a busy morning of swimming, coffee in hand, smile on my face, ready to sit and leisurely turn the pages and feel the inspiration flowing through ...

A Fabulous Surprise

The divine Emma had me on her list of recipients for this reward. I must say I was really touched, its' nice to know that while I often look upon my humble blog as my own personal place of creative therapy, that others do enjoy coming to visit and share my journey. So thank you Em and the readers of Making Memories ...

The idea in accepting this award is to detail 5 things that I love and then in turn hand on the good karma created to 5 other bloggers of whom I am inspired and admire, and think are "fabulous."

Really my ideals of "fabulous" blogging come from those all those blogs on the places I like to visit link. Each author is so unique and individual and brings life from a varied perspective. I thoroughly enjoy the inspiration obtained from so many facets, whether that be inspiring photographs from your perspective, motivating quotes that brighten my day, the creative delights from all the seamstresses out there, and those that offer places for the inner soul to cry out and find healing. You are truly all such talented ladies.

I am really simple when it comes to pleasure, but I love:

1. The aroma of a strong cup of coffee.

2. A long soak in the bath with candles, relaxing music and a really good book!

3. Watching my children sleep, they look so peaceful and I marvel that I was part of creating them. Don't get me wrong, I love them when they are awake too and running circles around me with their dazzling energy (of course of which I am utterly envious, I forget what it was like to be an innocent child thinking you could conquer the world)

4. Sitting at my sewing table working on one of my projects and watching the western sky fill with pinks and orange hues as the sun makes it's final descending journey home at the end of a day.

5. My family, encompassing my beautiful husband, my children, my parents, siblings, extended family and the friends to whom are my "zen."

Its' hard to just stop at 5 things, think of the smell of freshly cut hay, the wind in your face, standing in the rain looking up to the heavens, the sky filling with powerful lightning, and just walking out in the countryside, you and nature, it's a beautiful thing ...

My 5 Bloggers for the Fabulous Aware are all varied authors and show such inspiration and growth along their journey.
