Birthdays and Baptisms

Well the weeks have suddenly slipped on by so quickly and my baby boy is now 1 ...

Jaxon sporting his new mode of transport ...
its' Lightning McQueen! I am Speed!

Here I come Mum!

What a wonderful occasion his birthday and baptism celebration were, marked with great humour as only befitting for a Bourke Celebration!

Now our beloved Father Tink who welcomed Caleb and Jaida into the Catholic Faith was sadly unable to be there for Jaxon's special day (and we hope that Fr Tink gets well soon.) another outstanding member of the local Parish Community had been organised to step in! Imagine our surprise when Casey, Myself and the children all arrived at 11am on Saturday 1st November ready to celebrate Jaxon's immenent occasion, only to find out that the plans had been changed (and we hadn't been notified!) ... and that the "new" Priest organised to come from Melbourne thought our lovely day was the following day SUNDAY! ... Me just laughing casually as a friend commented "the lady couldn't do it and they can't find the priest!" (read - oh yes, thank you for your little laugh, hehehe had your little joke, very funny!") Oh Dear ... Where was the Priest?? Was he still in Melbourne? Was he on his way down? Was he in Echuca? Where oh Where Was He??

Now once upon a time, I would have become anxious and flustered at the thoughts of my event not running smoothly, changing of plans never sat well with my well organsed and orchestrated life! But these days (especially as my little family grew in number), I am a relaxed, laid back lady who just goes with the flow! There were a few "anxious" family members flittering about but Casey and I both decided (although we had a social engagement already marked for the Sunday) that if the Priest could not be found, we would celebrate Jaxon's birthday today (saturday) and rejoin tomorrow (sunday) for his baptism! A social weekend! WOOHOO!

By about 11:20am the Priest had indeed been located via mobile phone and was enjoying the tourist sights of our local little town. He rushed on over, threw the sacramental white robe over his jeans and sneakers and jogged on into the church ready to baptise Jason (no .. Jaxon as reminded by Master Caleb) ...

Now I have come across some quite varied Priests in my time .. and I must say I was entertained by this joyful character, Father John McCarthy, retired from Melbourne. He definitely had a different take on Baptism / Christening ... and Caleb sat there jaw dropped and eyes wide at one stage, wondering how an earth Jesus could speak if his "tongue had fallen out" and Jaida little hands demonstrating "the water falling down!" ...

I don't think little Jaxon knew what was coming as his head was graciously placed over the alter bowl! There was no gentle trickling of holy water from the glass jug, no it was poured, thrown and tossed! Jaxon happened to turn his head at the last moment and was engulfed by a turmulous waterfall of water coming down! Water .. water.. everywhere! My beloved friend and one of our God Parents laughed as water adorned her lovely white top (no wet tshirt competitions here please!) ... and that was the end of me, I laughed so much, that I cried, and I cried some more as I laughed! I must say it was the most humourous Baptism I have ever attended and as we revisit the occasion via our DVD, I laugh some more!

Following our joyous entering of new life into the Catholic Faither, our family and friends joined us for a beautiful luncheon at our home. Perfect weather, the gathering of friends, good food, what more could I ask! All the "tiny folk" entertained and played with each other in our humble yard ... Jaxon truly had a marvelous day surrounded by those who love and will look out for him as he continues to explore the world around him.

Jaxon's Beautiful Cake
made especially for him by my clever
and truly talented friend Lee M.

Many thanks to all who came, brought food to share and spoilt our little man rotten!

As I collect photos from family and friends, I will add them here ... There are some great group shots!

And for sweet reminiscent sighs ....
