Capes Galore

I wanted to make a special birthday cape for a little girl that turned 3 last December, so thought that I'd do a satin lined cape with satin applique. I was quite pleased with the lining, but sadly my efforts were quite disappointing with the satin applique and it just freyed everywhere on me, destroying the desired effect I was after. Obviously next time I would need to fold the edges of the shapes under, iron and then stitch.

My failed attempt at using a different material to felt on the outer for applique'

The inner satin lining was divine though, I'd do more lined like this.

So back to the drawing board I went and decided to do a simple reversed print superhero cape. The flowers were quite delicate on the print and very girly and sweet.

I just put a simple princess motif on the back of this cape

I'm now ready to trial a new version of the superhero cape, while the aplix allows the cape to be joined more safely than traditional ribbon / cord, I have not been satisfied with its' finished outlook. I must say by error, Caleb's original superhero cape has been by far the best join (when I folded over the collar to make it thinner), however I would like to do a few with just some satin ribbon and I've seen some lovely velour magician filled starry material at Spotlight which may be the next magician cape project.

To do list though before then is a faux fur lime green pencil case for school, pattern can be found here and be sure to check out other sewing centre free patterns from Spotlight here
